***FURTHER UPDATE – Got the selection of some components wrong read furher post for more information****
**UPDATE – thanks for the suggestions Tim**
Out runner Brushless motor. (when in doubt more power 2000W)
****Go for a lower KV motor than this. Revolutions per minute (rpm) = KV x Voltage. Also 2665W is a massive amount of power. You don’t need that many watts. Most commercial units are less than 1000W so no need to go crazy. i would go for this one: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__22036__NTM_Prop_Drive_50_60_270KV_2400W.html or http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18181__Turnigy_Aerodrive_SK3_6364_190kv_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html bascially anything below 300kv****
In an electric speed controller you need anything that can handle the huge amount of amps coming through it. 125A should be okay I would be nicer if it was higher but hobby king seems to be out of cheap 200amp versions
***This doesn’t have the most programmable features for a smooth acceleration. The most important aspect is the 0 -10 kph range or an e-board. I’m still looking at alternatives. Maybe the maybe this one but I don’t know as I haven’t purchase or used it sayhttps://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__14635__Turnigy_TrackStar_150A_1_8th_Scale_Brushless_Car_ESC.html. Actually just below this 125A ESC up. I purcahsed the following replacement: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10370__hobby_king_150a_high_performance_brushless_car_esc.html
A link to a guys project who pulls this one apart for his electric skateboard project. http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=37230&start=15
***This take 8AA batteries, Does the job but I should have purcahsed some small lipos for it. ***
Basically you looking for something with a high discharge rate C value and decent mAh. The motor handle 22.2v (well upto 26v) and esc tells me upto 7 cells is fine with it. Stacking up as 5000mAH, 25C = 100A which is fine with the max 90A drawn by the motor and 125A speed control.
*** maybe think about buy two lots of 3cell batteries for the lower profile***
I have to admit my electronics is a little rusty so please point out any holes in my game plan here. But I think it stacks up and shouldn’t see any melting of speed controllers or batteries. I’m think an amp meter might be a good idea as well.
Belts and cogs: about $30
I’ve seen some other peoples projects with chains but I’m thinking a belt drive would be quieter. I’ve got a local store which sells various pullies and belts which I’ll need to drop in on as searching on the internet through the million an one little pullies is doing my head in.
***cog selection was a problem for me. Read more recent post for my tried and failed approach Read this post about speed calculations https://howtomakeanelectricskateboard.wordpress.com/2013/05/09/calculating-speed/***
